Lynn Lum

Lynn Lum…It is a challenge for me to write about Lynn because she is such a good friend.  That, too, is why I enjoy her weavings.  As weavers, we can be isolated from others in our field.  Our art takes weeks, sometimes months to complete.  I have known some weavers who have taken a year or more to complete a single tapestry.  Yet, this work is work we love.  As you read Lynn’s personal artist bio, you will see there is much to be inspired by with this marvelous woman.

As an artist and friend, I feel inspiration from Lynn’s courage.  In addition, she is funny and fun to be around.  She is a genuine friend, and positive.  She is honest in her approach to life and friends and this translates well in her work.  There is a boldness of composition, and yet, her color choices are often reflective of her gentle strength and wisdom.  Her art elicits a feeling of joy.  Still, I find at times, my eyes fill with tears that have no named emotion to them.  I am honored to know Lynn as a companion in wool as well as a good friend.

Weaving tapestries has literally and figuratively saved my life. I am a surviving cancer patient having numerous chemo treatments.  Needless to say, there have been some rough days where I didn’t think I would make it through. Fortunately Elaine Nixon, master tapestry artist, took me under her wing, and I become her apprentice.

I was able to escape through weaving when I encountered those horrible moments that a cancer patient faces. Thank you for letting me share my work with you now,
