"There is in all things an invisible fecundity, a dimmed light, a meek namelessness, a hidden wholeness.  This mysterious Unity and Integrity is the Wisdom, the Mother of all, Natura Naturans."
                                                                      Thomas Merton

Dear Friends and Family,

We are entering a season of transition, moving from summer to autumn, from work and growth to a season of abundant harvest.  Transitional periods are, for me, a time of reflection and contemplation.  In this season of active silence, I appreciate so much of my life, so much of what I call, the Beloved Familiar.  The emergence of a sense of "what is right with the world" comes into and out of this locus.

Correspondingly, there is a nameless and wordless gratitude to these days.  And so, I am finding myself at a loss in trying to find a description of my friends I want to share with you this season.  I suppose I could say that each one is a breath of a smile received and given.  Both, for me, share in their friendship and art, the balance of "what is right with the world."  There is profound honoring in sharing both of these friends with you.

ARTISTS:

Diane Strong

Diane, of Niwot Florist, I first met through her art. Her flower arrangements consecrate my studio each week with the landscape of the heart.  More than simply the arrangements of floral design, her creations are her beauty, her integrity, her wisdom.  Gracious generosity is evident as she greets friends, neighbors and customers.  She is genuinely interested in the person.  When I asked her to tell me something of herself that I could share, she said, " I don't know.  I just do flowers."  And so it is with the art of Nature.  the sunlight is not grasped.  It illuminates, it nourishes.  It envelopes and sustains.  Thanks you, Diane.

Walter Taylor

Interestingly, I met Walter first through his art as well.  I saw his paintings on the internet and discovered that he, too, lived in Boulder County.  His paintings brought the solace of a countryside retreat into the busyness of my workday.  I was uplifted.  At the end of the day, I was surprised that when I took one last glace before heading home, I was refreshed with the warmth and renewal of friendship of my natural surroundings and people.  Something imperceptibly wordless had changed the painting.  I looked anew at the moment.  this experience is something of the Beloved Familiar that gives dignity to art, give dignity to life.  I wrote to Walter and thanked him and so we began a friendship and love of art and the creative process that melts into our lives.  Several weeks after our initial email  dialogue, I attended an art lecture at 910 Gallery in the Sante Fe Arts District in Denver.  Several rows ahead of me, my gaze settled on a man and a woman.  there was such peace and graceful beauty....Awareness dawned.  It was Walter and his partner, Chris.  And so it was. Thank you both for your Presence, and thank you, Walter, for sharing your vision through your art.

By artistic and creative genius, man rises above the material elements and outer appearance of things and sees into their inner peace."
